I know I saw a gifset on tumblr, after the first film was announced but before the casting was released, with a PoC in the role of Newt, but now I can't find it because tumblr has the worst search function ever. WE COULD HAVE HAD IT ALLLLLL

I mean, I guess building her up to kill her is better than just killing her out of the blue, at least from a narrative perspective? Actually, I think Leta sort of filled the same role as Cedric Diggory - we learn just enough about them to care when they get offed. And I think bringing Leta back, much as I'd like to see her again, would have all the problems resurrecting Cedric in OotP would have had. (Plus, Moffat undid character deaths so often on Doctor Who that now the whole trope fills me with visceral rage, lol.)
