binary_sunset: Newt Scamander from Fantastic Beasts (newt)
[personal profile] binary_sunset posting in [community profile] newts_magical_suitcase
Just thought I would start populating this comm by listing out a few of my favourite Gradence fics. Here they are, in no particular order. If any of these authors have dreamwidths, I'd LOVE to link to their journals!

Edit: all the URL links are clickable, I think copy/pasting from AO3 brought the format with it and made them all black.

Title: Resurrection
Author: almost-annette
URL: https://archiveofourown.org/works/9646631/chapters/21793868
Pairings: Graves/Credence
Rating: Mature
Content Warnings: Suicide, Period-typical homophobia
Other Tags: Non-magical AU, The Shining-inspired AU, slight daddy kink, anal sex, haunted hotels and plenty of spooky shit
Summary: Percy Graves, after a scandal ruined his career as a policeman, seeks employment at the Macusa Hotel - he's going to be the caretaker during the winter. Dreading a long and lonely stay in the infamous hotel, Percy is pleasantly surprised to discover that a young man named Credence will stay with him over the winter.
Everything could be fine, but why is Credence always freezing? Who exactly is the mysterious Manager he keeps talking about? And why does Percy keep seeing ghosts at every corner?
Fun fact, this was the fic that first got me into gradence, and now almost-annette and I talk nearly every day! So much can change in a year and a half.

Title: The Lighthouse Keeper
Author: gothyringwald
URL: https://archiveofourown.org/works/12229965
Rating: Explicit
Content Warnings: Minor character death, period-typical homophobia, references to depression, implied/referenced abuse
Other Tags: Non-magical AU, 1920s AU, Slow burn, masturbation, first kiss, sharing body heat, emotional hurt/comfort
Summary: Recently disowned by his parents, Credence Barebone arrives on a remote Australian island with his aunt, Mary Lou, to help with upkeep of the island's lighthouse. Credence is adrift, marooned on this isolated island. He hopes that he might find a friend in the enigmatic lighthouse keeper, Mr Graves, but the reserved man initially rebuffs his offers of friendship. When unfortunate circumstances bring them together, Credence and Graves discover they have more in common than they originally suspected.
I'm not sure gothy writes for Fantastic Beasts very often anymore, but I just love this whole fic. It's gorgeously written and this Graves is one of my favourites! I'm a sucker for a scruffy Colin in a beanie, apparently.

Title: The Bathwater Nymph
Author: morwrach
URL: https://archiveofourown.org/works/12039864
Rating: Explicit
Content Warnings:N/A
Other Tags: post-canon fix-it (post-FB1), mutual recovery struggles, fluff, a bit of angst, bathtub sex, nipple play, magical bath products, happy ending
Summary: Credence’s long hair hangs around his face, dripping pearls of froth. Constellations of tiny white flowers are caught in his dark curls. A sight for sore and lovelorn eyes – and yet unreal - like something out of a Greek myth.
Can be read as a standalone.
I love the whole series this is a part of, but this is my favourite instalment. In fact, I liked it so much, I made a moodboard for it. I'm just a sucker for Credence being happy and feeling himself, okay?

Title: autumn dusk at central park
Author: brawlite
URL: https://archiveofourown.org/works/11263215
Rating: Explicit
Content Warnings: N/A
Other Tags: post-canon (post-FB1), first meetings, slow burn
Summary: After two years, Credence returns home to New York City.
This is another author who I don't think writes for FB anymore, but Brawls is SUCH a talented author, I couldn't let this fic go unrecognised.

Title: Like a Saturated Sunrise
Author: [personal profile] writingramblr
URL: https://archiveofourown.org/works/12298677 (only available to registered AO3 users)
Rating: Explicit
Content Warnings: Underage
Other Tags: Modern AU, fluff and crack, crack treated seriously, summer romance, body hair, rimming, enthusiastic consent
Summary: “Credence… is everything alright?"
His jaw drops and a thousand replies flood his mind.
All he can do is stare and recall the tennis match from last Thursday.
Mr Graves had been in a white sweater, khaki shorts, and knee high socks with sneakers. He should have looked ridiculous, clad in simple ’Dad attire’ as Tina had snarked. But all Credence could think about is how handsome he is, how refined he always seems.
My weakness for bear!Graves is showing again, whoops. But seriously, this fic's plot is entertaining, slightly ridiculous, and weirdly sweet at times. And, naturally, Soz's smut is to die for.

Title: A Portrait of Two Gentlemen
Author: [personal profile] wanderingnork
URL: https://archiveofourown.org/works/14827986/chapters/34315824
Rating: General Audiences
Content Warnings: Period-typical racism, homophobia, sexism, etc.
Other Tags: Victorian/Gilded Era AU, Slow burn-ish, steampunk-adjacent
Summary: New York, 1885. The political aspirations of the Tammany Hall Democrat machine. Immigrants. Newsboy strikes. The birth of yellow journalism. Circus kings. The fledgling stars of Broadway. New industrial magic. The advent of the airship. Credence Barebone, the lost heir to a robber baron’s fortune, stumbling straight into the world of upper-class New York as he tries to claim his rightful place in society. Percival Graves, police superintendent for New York’s Finest, struggling to hold the rule of law together in a city staggering under the weight of corruption.
It’s said that, in New York, you can be a new man. Graves has never believed that, but looking at Credence he might just be able to believe.
Full disclosure: I did commission this, but I think Blue knocked it absolutely out of the park! She's also been a joy to work with throughout the entire process, so I hope y'all will give her hard work a chance!
