As the title says, this is a list of fics about Crimes of Grindlewald that I enjoyed. The summeries/tags do contain mild spoilers; I tried to put it under a cut but couldn't get Dreamwidth to cooperate. (I'm very new here, so do let me know if I've broken any local customs.)
Title: strange creatures
Author: Utopiste
Pairings: Leta Lestrange/Newt Scamander, Leta Lestrange/Theseus Scamander
Rating: Teen and Up
Content Warnings: Canonical Character Death
Other Tags: Canon Compliant, Angst, just hurt no comfort, Leta Lestrange deserved better
Summary: Leta is fifteen and dramatic and thinks she is so in love with her best friend she could die. Leta Lestrange is nineteen and tries too had to make this other boy smile, feeling like a teenager with a crush on her friend’s older brother all over again. Leta is thirty and finds out the people you stumble upon in the most unfortunate circumstances can be among the best ones you ever met. Four times Leta Lestrange loved someone (and more than one time they loved her back).
Notes: I love Leta with all my heart, and this fic certainly does her justice, with beautiful prose.
Title: Limbs To Spare
Author: gnimmish
Pairings: Tina Goldstein/Leta Lestrange/Newt Scamander, Leta Lestrange/Theseus Scamander
Rating: Mature
Content Warnings: None
Other Tags: Polyamory, Fluff, Mild Hurt/Comfort, Cuddling & Snuggling
Summary: When Theseus is away, Leta stays with Newt and Tina. And, almost inevitably, she ends up in their bed.
Notes: I wouldn't have considered this ship except for this fic, but now I love it.
Title: A Merrier World
Author: bluebeholder
Pairings: Tina Goldstein/Newt Scamander, Leta Lestrange/Theseus Scamander, Queenie Goldstein/Jacob Kowalski
Rating: General Audiences
Content Warnings: Implied/Referenced Character Death, Canonical Character Death
Other Tags: Implied Nagini/Credence, Absent Queenie, Comfort Food, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Families of Choice, The Suitcase Family
Summary: In the aftermath of it all, Jacob makes dinner. Those who are left behind remember, and plan, and have a chance, even for a moment, to smile. Everything else can come after.
Notes: Everything I wanted from a post-movie fic.
Title: glass cage
Author: PotterheadAvengerDemigod
Pairings: Leta Lestrange/Newt Scamander, Leta Lestrange/Theseus Scamander, Tina Goldstein/Newt Scamander
Rating: Not Rated
Content Warnings: Canonical Character Death
Other Tags: Romance, Unrequited Love, Falling In Love, Love Triangles, Angst, Leta's POV
Summary: Leta Lestrange is a fool. But this friendship wasn't something she would trade. Not for anything.
Notes: Gives Leta some nice backstory, and made me sad about her death all over again.
If you've got recs of your own, please share them!

Date: 2018-12-06 11:34 pm (UTC)I love Leta so much more than I expected to, but it's not really surprising - I am such a slut for "prickly female character with a tragic backstory." I can see why Leta got killed off; someone needed to die in the amphitheater scene to raise the stakes and Leta was in that (un)sweet spot of developed enough for us to care about her, but not prominent enough to have main character immunity, and she carried around so much guilt about Corvus that her sacrifice felt very in-character. But it is... unfortunate, lets say, that the character who died was also one of the very few characters of color.
(In other words, I'd feel a lot better about Leta's death if the franchise had done what I wanted from the beginning and cast an actor of color as Newt.)

Date: 2018-12-07 01:33 am (UTC)Oh my goodness, how precious would Newt be as a frizzy-haired black man? It would have been so lovely to have a black man in media filling a role other than "big aggressive strong man" or "aged wise mentor". I love Eddie, but oh boy, that would've been awesome! (My brain went right to a black man because "Scamander" is a pretty English last name, but he could be of just about any race, really. Perhaps it was originally more "exotic", but an ancestor changed it to something easier to pronounce).
As far as Leta goes, it just feels like they wrote the movie specifically to build her up just to kill her off. So much screen time is spent developing her and then just... poof! no more Leta! Time for some Scamander manpain! And now our two most prominent WoC are Picquery (who was barely in both movies) and Nagini (who has maybe three lines and the only thing we know about her is her condition). And as for MoC... there's literally one. And of the two (presumably) Jewish women, neither of them mention being Jewish at all and one of them is evil now *sigh* And neither of them are played by Jews (that I know of).
I suppose it makes sense from that perspective, but I'm kind of hoping that Jowling Krowling is gonna pull the rug out from under us with another unnecessary twist and let her live. It's the one time I'd welcome that specific brand of bad writing.

Date: 2018-12-07 03:34 am (UTC)I mean, I guess building her up to kill her is better than just killing her out of the blue, at least from a narrative perspective? Actually, I think Leta sort of filled the same role as Cedric Diggory - we learn just enough about them to care when they get offed. And I think bringing Leta back, much as I'd like to see her again, would have all the problems resurrecting Cedric in OotP would have had. (Plus, Moffat undid character deaths so often on Doctor Who that now the whole trope fills me with visceral rage, lol.)
Also, do you want me to make an intro post? I have no idea what proper DW etiquette is.
